Leonard Cohen 柯恩生平簡介
集歌手、音樂創作人、詩人、小說家、藝術家多種身分於一身的李歐納柯恩，1934年9月21日出生於加拿大蒙特婁市一個中產階級的猶太家庭。父親納珊柯恩是波蘭人後裔，母親則出身立陶宛猶太家庭。柯恩的父親早年曾開設服飾店而致富，卻在柯恩九歲那年即過世。高中時期和詩人Irving Layton(艾文萊頓)同校，青少年時期開始學習吉他，並自組樂團。而父親的遺產也某種程度支持了柯恩往文學發展的企圖心。1951年，柯恩進入McGill University大學，開始接觸葉慈、惠特曼、亨利米勒(Yeats, Whitman and Henry Miller)等人的文學作品。1956年出版第一本詩集《讓我們比擬神話》(Let Us Compare Mythologies)。接著又在1961年出版第二本詩集《大地香料盒》(The Spice-Box of Earth)，讓他在現代詩文學界大為出名。1963年出版第一本小說(The Favourite Game)。1966年發表《美麗失敗者》，書評家盛讚：「喬伊斯還在人間，他以柯恩之名在蒙特婁生活，他以亨利．米勒的角度書寫。」
柯恩的小說和詩歌作品經常觸及宗教、孤獨、性慾、以及人類情感糾葛的探討。而他寫的歌被各界歌手翻唱，至今已有300張以上的音樂專輯收錄。
柯恩自70年代開始修禪。1994年起，他隱居在伯地山禪修中心，1996年剃度出家成為禪宗和尚，法號「自閒」。1999年還俗下山。2008年初夏，74歲的柯恩重回舞台，在歐洲巡迴演唱，偶爾低吟他的詩句。他說：「我上次在這裡，是14年前，那時我60歲，只是個懷抱瘋狂夢想的孩子。」2009年，他流浪的腳步已經踏上澳洲。李歐納．柯恩至今出版9本詩集、2本小說、17張音樂專輯。他的作品，在世即為經典。
